Help From Heaven

Relying on tools from a loving Heavenly Father can give us the strength to work through our challenges

When we pass through challenges in life, it can be easy to feel alone. We may wonder if there’s anyone who could possibly understand our situation or if there’s any hope for relief. As these feelings surface, we can receive comfort knowing that we are never alone.

We have a loving Heavenly Father who has not left us comfortless. Through our covenants, the scriptures, and the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can receive heavenly help.

Covenant promises

Honoring our covenants enlarges our capacity.
Elder David A. Bednar shares, “As we honor our covenants and keep the commandments, our capacity is enlarged.” 1

We have the precious promise that when we do what God has asked us to do, we will receive help and support. We can think about our baptismal and temple covenants and reflect on the promises we will receive as we keep them.
Part of the baptismal covenant promises that as we remember the Savior, we will have His Spirit to be with us. 2 The Spirit of the Lord is one of the most precious gifts Heavenly Father has blessed us with. The Holy Ghost is a source of comfort, and He testifies of all truth. If we need peace during trials or increased knowledge during our studies, the Holy Ghost can help us.

Supported by His word

We can find other forms of heavenly help as we turn to the scriptures and the teachings of modern-day prophets. By learning gospel principles, we can find ways to work through our challenges.

Studying the word of God can give us the revelation to work through our challenges.

The scriptures contain many examples of people who faced difficult circumstances and overcame them by turning to Heavenly Father and asking for help.

Today, prophets share their experiences of challenges they’ve faced and the principles they’ve followed to find peace in their lives. Through revelation, they have seen our day and they know how to guide us. Information on a host of topics and talks that can strengthen us can be found at churchofjesuschrist.org .

Power through Him

Above all, we have the support of Jesus Christ and the enabling power of His Atonement. Through His grace, we receive a “divine means of help or strength.” 3 As we turn to Him in humble prayer, and ask for His help, we will be strengthened. In 2 Corinthians, Jesus Christ, speaking to the Apostle Paul, said, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” Paul responded, “Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 4

We each will fall short in our lives, but we can glory in Christ as we rely on Him to help us overcome our imperfections. He not only blesses us with power to work through our challenges, but He gives us family and friends, angels seen and unseen, to help us as well. As we rely on Him, we don’t ever need to feel alone.
